A Look Into "End Times"

I would imagine we've all seen the horrific scenes from the Japan quake and Tsunami.  I've seen and heard a lot of mention about end times and whether its near.

From a Christian perspective the end times would be the return of Jesus Christ.

This morning at Church my pastor spoke briefly about this and said "Live today like Jesus is coming back tomorrow." He went on to make the point that He might be coming back tomorrow but we won't know when he's coming back because we aren't supposed to know the exact date.  There will be signs like the ones written in the book of Revelation and these disasters, civil unrest, wars and starvation could be the signs of the end but he pointed out that the earth is not benign and these disasters are nothing new. Wars and famine are nothing new either. This is in no way belittling the enormity of the disaster but just that our focus should not be that it's the end of the world.

Let our focus be on the things that are important. Love and friendship, kindness and like my pastor said "Live today like Jesus will return tomorrow".

Here are some verses which reference Jesus's return and why we won't know the exact date:

Revelation 3:3 "3 Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you."

2 Peter 3:10 "10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare."

Luke 12:39-40 "39 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40 You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

Matthew 24:36 "36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."

Let's keep our eyes on the Father and our arms around each other.
