The Reality Of Evil

Every week, people like you and me scan the blogs in search of new stories on the paranormal.

Some of us are searching for answers to our own questions. For others it is a hobby that makes life a little more interesting and adds excitement.

But one thing that is consistent in those blogs, is that throughout the stories and 'scary tales' is a reality that there is evil operating behind the scenes of the universe and that affects how our world plays out in real time.

In blogland, whether it is reading a story on Skinwalkers on Native American reservations and the feeling and impact it has on those who experience it, or the fear and distress that comes with many suburban hauntings, to the things that ministers and others experience during an exorcism, the 'paranormal' or 'supernatural' world is often a world that could best be described as 'at war with humanity'. It so often could come with the tag "To kill, steal and destroy" as it's mission statement. For people who have been drawn into it as investigators, only to come undone emotionally, spiritually and physically, it only heightens the need for great caution. As with any war, to go into battle unprepared is to be routed by another army.

There are many manifestations of evil on earth that are not supernatural. Children dying of hunger, in a world where billions of dollars worth of food are thrown out daily. Sexual abuse of children by clergy and other leaders that have been entrusted with their care and well being. People who are isolated and made to live on the fringe because of gender, race, socioeconomic status, illness or orientation. Jails full of minority groups who were raided from nations as slaves, made slaves in their own nations or decimated by conquering nations who have lost all hope and are looking for answers to their future generations. A world that is raped and pillaged for short term profits as opposed to being used sustainably. A western world that benefits from the oppression of the third world. Children who are bullied in school and emotionally damaged for life. They are evidence that there is something terribly broken in the world.

I believe that we as human beings made in the image of God, have a duty to stand up to evil wherever it exists, starting in our own homes.

We can make a difference. Our prayers make a difference. Our love can make a difference. Our choices can make a difference.

Jesus said that to hate is to murder. That lust is equal with adultery.. That we are to love our enemies and do good to those that hate us. That we are to love others as we love ourselves. That the love of money is the root of all evil. And to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength..

So many of our problems stem from loving idols, chasing things that cannot bring life here or eternally, and not loving others.

And things unseen are at work, fuelling hopelessness, greed, diminishment, self centredness and as we see in many paranormal blogs, supernatural fear.

My prayer for the paranormal community is that we will stand together against evil in all its forms, whether the supernatural works of the devil or the manifestation of the fall of humankind in the way the world operates, which leads to the brokenness of humankind.

I'll leave you with a simple quote from Jesus.

"In this world you will have trouble, but be of good cheer - for I have overcome the world".

God bless you - Pastor Baz.
