Do Monsters Beget Monsters?

In a very interesting post on Ozcrypto, one of their members (Nightwalker) raised the subject of folklore being the basis for all monsters.
http://forum.ozcrypto.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=246 (You have to join as a member to log in)
"There are no monsters other than the ones we, ourselves, create. The real mystery is why there are people who believe that there are and, conversely, who are willing to fake it in order to prove it. That is what people are currently doing, it is what people have always done. People like doing it, people like hearing about it, it stimulates thought and the imagination, and it is brings people together to talk about it. It has a social function. It is also fun."
Now Nightwalker is a skeptic and he is raising a valid argument that the whole 'industry' needs to engage in. Are people willing to allow the facts to be superseded by their belief system.
Part of my response was:
" I think the reason for the 'surge' in times of mass media is that 'monsters' 'ghosts' 'aliens' 'cryptids' are fairly exciting and intruiging to cultures and monster hunting stimulates our needs for 1) identity 2) truth 3) purpose 4) breaking mundanity 5) the need to belong (religious, gang, team, organisation etc).. Those things aren't wrong but they become wrong if the truth is misappropriated to continue the interest of the 'group'. And every organisation, if they are truly honest, is guilty of this at some level. I'm guilty of it at some level, if at most times unconsciouslly so due to 'conditioning'.
In a world of mass media and blogging, information is freely available, quickly, without offering any real evidence. I mean, we do that on this blog, because most often there is no physical, photographic or other evidence to back up the claims - it's normally someone's story or interpretation of facts. That's why we'll often do a disclaimer like in our last story "The Portal":
"No-one but that boy can vouch for the reality of what he saw. Whether it was in his mind or was real is speculation".
So the very honest question we have to ask ourselves is, do monsters beget monsters? Is it imagination in overdrive, is it a desire to chase after something bigger, or is it as Nick Redfern has implied that we create them by invoking them out of our interest and desire to see them (them being ancient demonic beings) and they meet us in shape, form and context where we are at in history (as Keel suggests http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Keel).

Bizarre In The News - Bid to raise a ghost tour

WOLLONDILLY Council wants businessman John Vincent to bring Picton Ghost tours back from the dead and has offered to help him prepare a development application that could ensure its survival.
After months of wrangling with the council over operating conditions to be placed on his 13-year-old business, Mr Vincent "gave up the ghost" in December and stopped the tours.
Mr Vincent was initially critical of council's treatment of his business but was "feeling better" after a meeting with the council on Thursday and indicated the closure might not be permanent.
Wollondilly Council has asked the business to submit a development application seeking formal permission for tour groups to visit three sites owned by the council in Picton.

Bizarre In The News - Funny smell just may be a ghost

DO you ever hear children playing when you’re all alone?

Do you detect sour smells you can’t explain or do your doors keep slamming?
If so, you might benefit from the free services of Kade Jones and Lara Jeffcoat, of Haunted Australia.
Mr Jones, who has researched ghosts in Tasmania, recently moved to Mackay and is looking for potentially haunted locations to explore.
“It’s an obsession, basically,” Mr Jones said. “We research potentially haunted locations. It’s not a fact of just saying ‘hey, there’s ghosts’. You’ve got to delve into the history and find out what has happened there.
“It is amazing what you find out.”
Mr Jones said people who believed they knew of haunted sites could contact him for assistance.
He also investigates places on his own, and claims he has photographed some orbs, which indicate ghost-like activity, in Mackay, including at the Sydney Street Markets, where the Mater Hospital used to stand.
Mr Jones said he was very cautious of orbs in photographs, as they could be caused by dust or water.
“What we look for in an orb is concentric circles inside one another.
“If it’s just a normal haze or a blob we discard it there and then.”

Bizarre In The News - Vintage Spirit: Ghost watch at Magill

VIDEO surveillance equipment has been installed in a historic cottage at Penfold’s Magill Estate Winery in an attempt to explain strange happenings, which many believe are the work of a resident ghost.
The sensors and video equipment were installed in the 1840s Grange Cottage late last year after a series of alarms in the cottage were mysteriously triggered.
Cellar Door manager John Miller believes the cellar is haunted by Mary Penfold, whose husband Dr Christopher Penfold founded the winery 167 years ago.
He says staff recall many eerie events over the years, including a tea cup with Mary Penfold’s intials on it inexplicably moving around the cottage and a female voice being heard across the vineyards.
The strange activity ceased about 20 years ago, however the mystery was reignited last October when alarms started sounding without explanation.
Magill Estate site services co-ordinator Shane Carter says the alarms sound after dark and sometimes up to three times a night.
“Initially we put it down to the new (security) system and a few technical issues ... but that all got sorted out and we were still getting strange activity,” Mr Carter says.
“It’s different down there at night, it has a very strange feeling and it’s very isolated.”

Bizarre In The News - Discovery Channel Claims Collaboration with Vatican, Which Is News To The Vatican

Fox News

Last week the Discovery Channel announced an “unprecedented” collaboration with the Vatican on a new television series entitled “The Exorcist Files,” which explores cases of demonic possession investigated by the Catholic Church.
Discovery even claimed the upcoming series includes access into the Vatican’s case files.
“The Vatican is an extraordinarily hard place to get access to,” Discovery President GM Clark Bunting told Entertainment Weekly. “But we explained we’re not going to try to tell people what to think.”
The EW article went on to express the network’s desire to take its partnership with the Church to the “next level – joining the Catholic investigators on live demon-purging ride-alongs."
However, one slight problem – somebody might want to let the Vatican know that they’ve opened their doors.

Bizarre News - Paranormal club begins 2011 with downtown retail store

theworldlink

COOS BAY - Members of Paranormal Studies & Investigations of Oregon cringe when a reporter describes their spirited pursuits as a hobby.
"We've always been very passionate about it," said group co-founder Laura Schier.
Besides, what they do is a business now.
In recent weeks, the four-year-old ghost hunting club set up shop in downtown Coos Bay, selling apparel, spiritual bric-a-brac and, soon, a variety of digital devices to capture evidence of orbs, mists, disembodied voices and other anomalies.
Call it a paranormal pro shop.
Does this thing have a ghost of a chance of surviving?
Undoubtedly, club members say.
Profits for probes
They have no illusions of turning big profits and quitting their day jobs. They say whatever money the new store makes goes right back into funding road trips for investigations beyond the Bay Area and for buying expensive ghost-chasing equipment.
"And it makes it a little more accessible for people who want an investigation to come and see us face to face instead of just calling," Schier said.
The club sells only merchandise, not services. Consultations and investigations are performed gratis.
"What we do is not scientifically proven," said founder Donna Stewart.
"I don't think you should charge for that."

Bizarre News - Do Women Want To Believe?

Are women really more likely than men to believe in the paranormal?
You'd certainly think so if you were to go by what's on the female-oriented pay-TV channels: ghost hunters, "psychic" detectives, people who claim to talk to the dead, even supposedly psychic children.  Women's magazines are full of horoscopes and ask-a-psychic columns, while men's mags are full of beer ads and babes. The conclusion seems obvious, doesn't it?

But Perth teacher and researcher Kylie Sturgess has found that the difference between women and men isn't so much in their propensity to hold paranormal beliefs as it is in the kinds of paranormal beliefs they're likely to hold.

"Women are more likely to be at the 'social' end of paranormal beliefs," Sturgess says. "They're more likely to believe in things like mediums, astrology, psychic healing, and ghosts.

"Men, for instance, are more likely than women to believe in the alien astronaut theories of Erich von Daniken, and more cryptozoological things like the Loch Ness monster."

Studies have also shown that men are also more likely to believe in conspiracy theories, creationism and the notions of historical revisionists, while women are more likely to believe in telepathy and New Age theories.

New blog - New Year - The Portal

Many times in the recent past I have heard people speak of the existence of portals. This word is often used in the context where a 'suspected' area of high supernatural or unexplainable activity has been occurring. Whilst its a difficult concept to prove, a portal could be described as being "the conduit, gate, or break in the lining between our world and another".

Even at Church, where we were having all sort of strange and tangible occurrences with multiple witnesses, a number of people suggested that there may be a portal in the Church. Reasons for this that were offered could have been due to past rituals of a spiritual nature (Aboriginal or otherwise) and numerous people, including two cleaners who had heard voices and seen figures suggested the phenomenon was entering in the corner of one room. One morning after Church, a witness and I saw a black human shaped form emerge from that corner as we chatted in the cafe. As it walked across the floor toward the counselling room we followed it and once in the counselling room we were shouted at by an unseen voice that said a word that sounded like "Geshu" in a gravelly and agressive manner.

Then last month I was talking to a relative of mine who is a teenager who was sharing with me a very strange experience that they had.
It should be noted that this young man is noted for his honesty and integrity both at home and school, to the point where this is reflected in his school reports. There is no benefit to him to make up the story you are about to read, nor does he wish to be identified.

The events he relayed occurred between the ages of 6 and 8 years old. It began with him seeing what he described as 'red eyes' that would appear in his room. The eyes would appear at around the 5 foot mark and watch him from one side of the room. When he hid his head under his doona, the eyes would soon appear under there with him. This was very unnerving and he would share this with his parents, who unsure of whether it was imagination or reality, cautiously prayed over the room.

The eyes stopped but something else began.

During daylight as well as night time a 'hole' opened up on the wall. It was about 2 feet in diameter. This appearance lasted from minutes to hours. There was no rhyme or reason for it, no pattern. The boy felt like he had to endure it and did not share with his parents what he saw.

Because inside the portal it was a view of a battle of biblical proportions.

What he saw were Angels and demons warring. A battle that was ongoing, intense and furious. And he also saw a great dragon like creature that at times would grasp at the entrance and try to break through, to the point where its talons would grip the edges of the portal, only to be subdued by the angels.

No-one but that boy can vouch for the reality of what he saw. Whether it was in his mind or was real is speculation.

But we don't need to speculate on the fact that that very war is written of in scripture: REV 12:7-9

Now war arose in heavenMichael and his angels fighting against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they were defeated and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world - he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
There is still a battle raging, a battle that is not one of equal powers, as Christ won victory over the work of Satan on the cross when He was crucified and rose again. But nevertheless, it is a battle that must continue until the return of Christ and the judgement of the nations. satan and his minions continue to harrass, oppress, posess and inflict harm, while God's angels (as you will read in many other stories in our blog) protect humans until the end of the present 'time' is fulfilled and God restores the universe back to it's perfect state.

Crazy stuff or a legitimate view of another realm? Heard any good portal stories? Send us your story or a link.

Pastor Baz.

Bizarre News - Paranormal Investigator wants to help

SOMETHING strange?, here's who you got to call. A ghostbuster he is not, but if you've got a bad case of things going bump in the night then Kade Jones may be able to help.
A full-time researcher with Haunted Australia, Mr Jones is planning a trip to Cairns in search of haunted sites in the area and is asking locals to report any spooky events they have experienced.
Mr Jones said paranormal activity could happen at homes, tourism areas, old hospital grounds, historic cane cottages, or any other places where people have died.
Against popular belief, Mr Jones said it doesn’t have to be a violent death for a haunting to occur.
"It could be a location where someone has enjoyed living and they don’t want to leave because it was a happy place for them," he said.
People should look out for objects moving on their own, unusual presences, orbs and out-of-focus patches in photographs, unexplained sounds or even a strange sour or floral smell.
Mr Jones will visit the sites to take photographs, films, and readings which might indicate paranormal activity.
He said it was important to have an open mind, and would always look for the most logical explanation first.

Bizarre In The News - Faith Or Fraud

Ninemsn A US singer paralysed from the waist-down after a car accident 23 years ago says she can now walk again after visiting a spiritual healer.
Evangelist gospel singer and paraplegic Delia Knox, 46, lost all feeling in her legs after a drunk driver struck the car she was in on Christmas Day 1987.
But Ms Knox said her life was turned "upside down" in August this year after visiting preacher Nathan Morris at a Christian revival at the Bay of the Holy Spirit Revival in Alabama.

"To be honest I’ve stayed away from healing meetings," Ms Knox said in a new interview with theDaily Mail newspaper.
"I've been pulled, plopped and dropped and rarely responded to altar calls."
"But Nathan Morris called my husband forward and I had no idea what was going on .... then all of a sudden I felt a voice which I knew was the Holy Spirit saying to me, 'Get up', and I felt feeling in my legs and then faith came on me to walk."

The object, seen at the Albert dock in Merseyside, has raised questions about the effect England's freezing waters are having on marine biology.
Some experts have said it could be a basking shark while others have said it could simply be a jetski.

A New Kingdom

Around 2000 years ago, in a small middle eastern country under occupation, a baby was born who was destined to change the world.
While many religions have mythology that ascribed their deities a virgin birth, this was the fullfillment of those myths. The deity was born of a virgin. A young girl from a lower working class family in a remote area who had been betrothed to a local carpenter. Her pregnancy was announced by a visitor who was not human and although her fate could have been death, she accepted the responsibility of carrying this child, who would be remembered as the Son of God made flesh.
The birth was as unassuming as it gets - He was born in a manger, surrounded by animals, straw, dung and the smell of earthiness. There was no midwife or nurse to hygeinically remove the afterbirth and weigh the child. He was born as children are still born in third world countries.

Although this birth was foretold by the prophets, it went largely unnoticed. Magi who had studied the stars and prophecies knew of imminent birth and travelled far to find the one they assumed was the King promised in myth and legend. Shepherds in the hills surrounding Bethlehem recieved a shock when Non Human Entities appeared proclaimed that the King of Kings had been born and that good news was coming to the earth.

And indeed, it was good news.

In his life, Jesus taught us to love our enemies and do good to those who hate us.

He showed that the Kingdom of darkness via which satan ruled the earth would be defeated.

He proved that the Kingdom of God was here and demonstrated power over sickness, death and the demonic spiritiual realm.

He included social outcasts in His life, showing that all people were equal before God and that everyone had a part in that Kingdom, as opposed to the one that the Romans ruled.

He was crucified on a Roman cross and rose from the dead to prove that in His death and ressurection was the power for the forgiveness of earthly sins, pride and idolatry and a hope that we could live forever with God after we physically die. That one day, all who believed would be ressurected and we would see our loved ones again in the presence of perfect love.

And then He left his followers, saying He would one day return - but He would leave a helper - the Holy Spirit, who on the day of Pentecost transformed a frightened bunch of fisherman, prostitutes, tax collectors and their colleagues into people of great spiritual power who did exactly what Jesus did - healed the sick, cast out demons and demonstrated that the Kingdom of God was here. They fed the poor, looked after orphans and widows, ensured that they shared all they had.

In the approximately 2000 years since those events, those who claim to follow Jesus have often brought great shame to the one they claim to follow. But they also changed the world. St Patrick did incredible signs and wonders and healings to lead Ireland to Christ, and deliver people from demonic oppression and pagan practices which included child sacrifice. Missionaries since that time who have truly been disciples have had countless encounters with oppressive spiritual forces all over the world, from idols that tribes claim demanded 90% of produce as an offering, to breaking the power of witchdoctors who sent demonic spirits of sickness over whole regions. While sceptics will scoff at that idea, when you hear the stories from people like Pastor Robin Swope and other colleagues, you realise this is a real power that causes great fear and loss wherever it is weilded.

This Christmas, our message is that this new Kingdom is available to all people. It requires a surrendering of being a slave to this current system that promotes materialism, consumerism, oppression of the poor and making ourselves God. It requires sacrfice, It requires loving others unconditionally. It requires humility. But it delivers us from evil.

I pray for all our brothers and sisters in the Paranormal "Industry" that they will be protected by the love and power of God through Jesus Christ this Christmas.
Will you pray and seek God's will for your life?

God bless you - Pastor Baz.

Bizarre In The News - Mysterious fireball

Dailymail

A mysterious fireball that lit up the sky over Atlanta has left onlookers bewildered as to what it could have been.
Charsign Raymond, 39, of Clarkston, was visiting a friend's home in Stone Mountain when his friend's wife saw the unidentified object streak across the sky.
'She ran in and said, "Look, you've all got to see this"', Mr Raymond recalled.

Mr Raymond managed to capture the double-barrelled ball of fire falling towards the ground on his camera.
DeKalb County Police Department said they had no reports of fireballs hitting the county recently and have offered no explanations as to what it could be.
A neighbour who also witnessed the unexplained sighting said she thought it was a meteor about 10 times larger than any she'd ever seen before.
A second streak zoomed across the sky just seconds later.

Bizarre In The News - Hills alive with UFOs

The Daily Telegraph

A PROSPECTOR who went to find gold in the hills thinks he may have found something better - evidence that aliens really do exist.

Adam Cainero believes he captured a photograph of an alien spacecraft hovering above an escarpment near Majors Creek, in the Southern Tablelands near Braidwood.
After an unsuccessful weekend fossicking for gold Mr Cainero and a friend were making the long trip home when he stopped to take a snap of the steep mountain they had driven down.
When he got home, Mr Cainero said he realised he had found gold of another kind after all.
"I just took a picture of the mountain range and the sun was in my eyes so I just kind of pointed and shot," Mr Cainero said. "Then we looked at the picture - we were, like, no way."
With its shape and its position in the sky, Mr Cainero said he immediately knew the black object was a UFO.
"We always see really weird things as we go out to places where there is no one around," he said.

FROM BRY: It's definitely an unidentified flying object but it's not evidence aliens exist by any stretch of the imagination. As you may have gathered I am incredibly skeptical when it comes to photos of UFOs and this photo is no different. It could be anything from a fly/bug that flew in front of the lens to a piece of dirt on the lens or even a bird? And not to forget terrestrial aircraft. There are a number of rational options to explore before naming it evidence of aliens.

We are the unseen many...

How many of you have experienced something you would class as paranormal?
Have you ever spoken to anyone about it?
What happened when you told them?
Were they supportive?
Or did they think you were lying or "exaggerating?".

This is an all too common occurrence.

I even see it within the paranormal community, negativity, bullying and belittling. Its time that the paranormal community step up and be supportive of one another. Enough of the bashing and putting others down.  We need to listen to the stories, photos and experiences with an open heart and open mind.  I'm not saying we should be gullible or a pushover but there are ways to discuss and "debunk" in a respectful and mature manner.

People shouldn't be scared they will be laughed at for sharing their experience.

I am asking us all to be respectful to one another.  Lets be open to listening to others opinions, how will we learn otherwise?

Mark 12:31

“We want to bring the audience in and make them feel like they’re taking on the ghost hunts first-hand.”
Grzelka is a medium with extensive experience conducting ghost tours in Western Australia.
“Anthony will be looking to evoke spirits on the show. He’ll also do some background explanation of the
locations,” Mr McNamara said.
The location of the filming is a secret, but Mr McNamara said it would be in the Ballarat area.
“We’re keeping the location secret so that our volunteers don’t do background research and then ham it up for the cameras,” he said.
“We want them to go in with an open mind.”
Anyone wishing to volunteer for the pilot can email the producers at spookedtv@y7mail.com.

Bizarre In The News - A scientific explanation for ghosts

gather.com and Paranormal.about.com

There may be an explanation for things like ghosts and hauntings. And it’s not your mind simply playing tricks on you.
Are you hearing weird sounds, briefly seeing ghostly images, feel a presence in the room with you, or an inexplicable and sudden sense of overwhelming fear?
It just might be infrasound.
Infrasound is an extremely low frequency between between .1 -20Hz. It is so low, that humans cannot hear it. But we can feel it. A good portion of the population is also thought to be hypersensitive to these low frequencies. Infrasound can cause bizarre effects, including nausea, extreme fear or awe, anxiety and chills. Researchers also believe it affects vision by causing vibrations of the eyeball. These vibrations can cause you to ‘see’ ghosts.

Bizarre In The News - 'Ghost' caught on camera in Flinders Mall, QLD

Couriermail and Paranormal.about.com

THERE'S something spooky going on in one of Townsville's oldest inner-city buildings.
Video footage of paranormal activity in an old CBD building has surfaced on internet site YouTube, and it has already captured the imagination of the online world, sceptics and ghost-hunters alike.

Real Life Story - The Lazarus Effect: When Real Healings Happen

This is going to sound so out there but it's true, there are six witnesses.
What happened has me questioning so many things about healing but let me explain further....

For around eight weeks I have had swollen glands, general malaise and all the symptoms of glandular fever.
During that time I have prayed for healing over and over. But the symptoms worsened. It was one afternoon when I was sitting in my backyard that I cried out to God and said "Why won't you heal me"? And the answer was so simple. "Because you need to change". And what a month it has been since then. My diet has completely changed. Bad habits and thought patterns, fears and anxieties that were strongholds in my life have been broken. My personal intimacy with God has returned to a level I never thought possible. Worship music and the reading of the Bible are to my soul what chocolate is to my tongue. But prior to this I was in a dull fog. Fasting and prayer were the conduit for the process of healing which is still continuing as I am still changing and seeing what needs to change. This is known as repentance and my friend Mark Colys who was a successful business man and spearfishing champion until suffering a massive brain injury in a boating accident also attributes the process of repentance to his ongoing healing. He should never have lived let alone spoken, read or walked again. But he says with absolute conviction that the losses he suffered brought a greater gain through his experience of God.

And then there's the rabbit Millie!!

We have many pet rabbits and when they stray out of the yard they often come back sick and die within 24 hours. We think this is due to consuming snail baits or toxic plants next door. But rabbits being rabbits are hard to contain, they get out any way they can.

So when Millie came back and we she was struggling to walk we knew what was next. And over the course of the day she became ill to the point where there was no hope. She was limp in my childrens hands and they were crying.

I held her in the cup of my hand, and felt like we should pray. I made the sign of the cross over her body, and seven times I said "In the name of Jesus of Nazareth be healed". That was not done out of ritual, it was just what I felt to do.

She remained limp, motionless, eyes open, glazed. I put her in a chicken cage on some straw and vowed to bury her in the morning.

The next day I went down stairs to get the body. It was gone, so I assumed the kids had buried her before I got up as I had heard them crying and fighting, a sure sign something is going on with the animals.

I went about my daily business and my wife and I went to run an errand. When we returned I saw something running around playing in the front yard. A baby rabbit.

"How did the other baby get out, I put it away myself" I said.

My wife screamed. "That's Millie".

"It can't be...." I looked closer. The other baby was all white. This one had black around it's eyes and a black patch on its back. It was Millie.

And she has been fine ever since. If she turns out to be a boy (hard to tell at this age) then I'm renaming her Lazarus.

This is the second complete healing of an animal we have experienced at our house after prayer. It appears that God cares for His creation infinately more than we understand and it also proves that signs, wonders and miracles still go where believers in Christ go. I have experienced healing which saw me off crutches in a second, yet experienced great suffering at other times with no healing. Is it a lack of faith? Is it because God allows suffering to build patience? It is difficult to fathom at times how God works in this area. The same man from Kenya who prayed for my ankle has seen people healed of AIDS in his Church. Yet I have prayed for people in hospital and who are dying, and the miracle they had was to recieve Christ as Lord and Saviour before death, one claiming to have seen demons in her room waiting for her to die up until that point.

I believe we need to live in that faith zone all the time and see what God does with it. Put on the full armour of God to stand firm against the enemy (satan) who wishes to destroy your faith and seduce you away from God.

God bless you - Pastor Baz,
